guess i've finally stumbled into the right place. been wondering if anyone knows of the existence of a performance of the great rahsaan roland kirk and the mothers. it was apparently a mothers concert and kirk jammed with them during the set. i've been looking for it for years. i know it exists because the concert was reviewed in downbeat magazine. not sure, but i 'believe' the year was 1969. i have the magazine but unfortuneately it's not accessable at the moment. any information would be appreciated. if a tape exists well ...

glad to hear someone else feels the same way. i'm a huge fan of both and can only fantasize about what it sounded it. i still remember the downbeat review 35 years later. it raved. the show is by far #1 on my wish list.

if you count on Gail - you are lost. Twisted Evil
But i will ask Roy Estrada, maybe he remembers some details of that event. He definitely has no special tapes which are not in circulation anyway.

I have a good friend who is a Rahsaan freak. He has spent the last 25 years collecting every RRK recording out there. I will ask him if he knows anything about this and can help.

just started to look for the zappa-sections in the Kirk-biography (highly recommended !)
there are about 10 pages full with raving reviews of the boston jam and a lot of quotes from frank and the mothers-

fact is: Kirk definitely joined the mothers at the boston globe festival - it must have been fantastic
and at a jazz-festival in Miami, 3 weeks later. No exact date mentioned.
